After many years in service, this kindergarten playground was due for a redesign. The process started with a series of consultations with the children, teachers, and parents. This information used to develop an engaging and active outdoor play environment.
The design focuses on nature play and loose parts play. It aims to represent local indigenous culture, the school’s Christian values and David Thornburg’s archetypal learning spaces. These combine to provide flexible play spaces, where teachers can tailor learning to children’s interests.
